REVOLUTIONARY BREAKTHROUGH IN BARIATRIC SURGERY, APPLE VISION PRO USED IN LIVE BARIATRIC SURGERY IN FIRST TIME

For the first time, the Apple Vision Pro, an augmented reality (AR) device introduced by the tech giant last year, was utilized in a live bariatric surgery. This groundbreaking procedure was conducted by Dr. Mohit Bhandari, a renowned bariatric surgeon, at one of Pristyn Care’s surgical centers in New Delhi. The operation involved both a sleeve gastric bypass and a Single Anastomosis Duodenal-Ileal (SADI) procedure. The patient, a 45-year-old weighing 155 kg, was also suffering from obstructive sleep apnea and high blood pressure. The surgery, performed on Friday, May 17, lasted for 40 minutes.

The Apple Vision Pro created a highly immersive and interactive 3D environment, enabling Dr. Bhandari and his team to visualize complex anatomical structures with exceptional clarity. This technological advancement enhanced the precision of the surgery, thereby minimizing risks and significantly improving patient outcomes.

The successful incorporation of Apple Vision Pro into bariatric surgery signifies a significant advancement in our quest to transform surgical procedures. We take pride in leading this technological revolution, which holds the promise of refining precision, enhancing outcomes, and establishing new standards in the healthcare sector,” stated Dr. Vaibhav Kapoor, co-founder of Pristyn Care.

Dr. Bhandari echoed this sentiment, stating, “The effective utilization of Apple Vision Pro in these intricate procedures unlocks fresh avenues for surgical precision and patient well-being. We take pride in spearheading the integration of advanced AR technology into medical practices.”

Pristyn Care facilitates advanced secondary care surgeries with the support of more than 200 in-house super-specialty surgeons located across numerous partner hospitals and clinics.

Recently, surgeons in Brazil leveraged the Apple Vision Pro headset to augment shoulder arthroscopy, projecting high-definition images and real-time data during surgery. This allowed for a visual depiction of the procedure on a patient with a torn rotator cuff. Prior to this, surgeons in London utilized the Apple Vision Pro for a complex spinal procedure.

Conclusion

Bariatric surgery can be a life-changing procedure for individuals struggling with severe obesity and its related health conditions. By significantly reducing weight and improving overall health, bariatric surgery offers a new lease on life for many patients. However, it requires a serious commitment to lifestyle changes and ongoing medical care to ensure long-term success and health.
